What is the difference between "fostering" and "adopting"?

Fostering means you’re taking a dog or cat into your home, but only temporarily — you’re basically letting them live with you until they find a forever home so they don’t have to stay at a shelter or for dogs that have been returned whilst they seek a new permanent home.

Adopting, on the other hand, means you’re taking on the full responsibility of that animal — and the dog or cat is now yours forever!

The length of foster placements can vary from anything between one day and a few months.

On average, most of our puppies are adopted within three weeks and most adult dogs within eight weeks. We do have some dogs on long term foster placements.

Our foster carers help prepare dogs for their new homes, help with toilet training and basic training, feed back information on the dog to help Broken Halo advertise them and allow potential new owners to come and meet the dogs at their homes.
